10 days in Netherlands/ Belgium: DAY 2
07.03.2015
Started my second day with a 1hr river cruise that my city card includes.
There are different boat companies around and you can take any of it.
So i just chose one that is near my airbnb apartment.
It was around 1 hour onboard with audio from the guide.
Amsterdam is really famous for the canals,
so by doing a river cruise is definitely a great way of enjoying the city.
The guide will point out the different attractions of Amsterdam,
as the board went through the canals...
After that, i made my way to the famous "I amsterdam" words.
As usual, the crowd is just too crazy!
It is almost impossible to get a proper photo there.
P.s. It was Saturday and the queues for museums is crazily long.
Esp. those popular ones like Van Vogh Musuem.
Just so thankful that i went there yesterday alr.
Tip: Get there early in the morning before everyone was there!
But i am never really an early person, so i don't have a decent photo there.
Priority of the day for me,
was to spam as many museums and attractions as possible!!
There are too many museums in Amsterdam,
so i chose the museums that i was most interested and do them by area.
Took transport to different places and it was really easy to travel within the city. Also, do take closing times into consideration and plan your route beforehand.
The map they provide is definitely very useful!
First Museum: Stedelijk Museum
It is a contemporary museum where modern art and designs can be found there.
The crowds there as compared to other museums is relatively little.
But i think it is pretty interesting!
They have different areas with different themes.
And some exhibitions has people performing and interacting with the visitors,
And some exhibitions has people performing and interacting with the visitors,
which i find it really nice.
Second stop: Huis Marseille Museum
It is Amsterdam's first photography museum.
It housed in two historical 17th century canal houses,
and the exhibitions changes 4 times annually.
Third stop: Museum of Canal
Where i am given an audio guide,
to go through the different stations.
Did not take much photos here because i find it interactive.
Where the different rooms have something to describe the stories.
Approx time will be 40minutes-1 hour.
Forth Stop: Tassenmuseum Hendrikje- Museum of bags and purse
Read many good reviews about this place,
so i decided to hop over to take a look.
It is the largest Bag Museum in the world.
There are plenty of purses and bags in it,
from the ancient times since 16th century to the new collections.
You can find the classics designs of establish brands in it.
I am not someone that is really into branded bags and all,
thus i only walked through the different levels of the museum
and decided to leave this place.
So i guess unless love bags and purses, if not you should give it a miss.
And so, after the many museums that i went into,
i decided that i was pretty sick of it already.
I felt like the whole afternoon was filled with too much contents.
Thus, i decided i should get slightly further from the city centre.
Market place that i passed by along the way,
with small vendors selling things along the streets
and people performing there as well.
Fifth Stop: Natura Artis Magistra
Yes, i travelled to the east side to the zoo!
Actually it was pretty near to the city centre.
I do not think tourist will actually visit the zoo in Amsterdam.
But well, since it's free for me, why not?
Plus it is a new change for me from the museums.
Really think that the nature, animals do suit me more...
All the animals was really near to the people and not as locked up...
Penguins that are so cuteee.
Saw many parents bringing their kids to the zoo.
Sixth Stop: Micropia
I took such a long time to find the entrance to this.
But it is actually just located next to the zoo!
It is the first museum that display the invisible world of Micro-organisms.
I must say that this museum is really SUPER COOL!
There are lots of knowledge you can learn inside,
but it is pretty cool to just see things you can't see with your naked eyes.
I went in thinking that it was almost closing time,
but in the end the opening time was extended.
So i was really happy that i can take my own sweet time around the museum.
The concept of the place is cool and suitable for kids as well.
Everyone will be given a piece of card as shown above.
And there will be different stations in the museums,
and upon completing a station,
you can get a chop on your card.
The chop is make up of shapes of micro-organisms.
Don't know why, but this got me pretty excited!
They also have lab personnels in the museum to help you,
and also explain things you don't understand to you!
One interesting thing to me is seeing the ant nests that they built.
And you can see the activities and the structure of it.
How cool is it?
Totally recommend it if you have kids or if you are interested in science.
Soon, it was dinner time.
Walked past this place and was craving for some pasta.
Went in with high hopes since the shop is named "PASTA FACTORY"
My pasta & my cup of hot chocolate!
Looks pretty nice and delicious.
But, it was such a huge disappointment...
Totally missing the pasta i ate over in Copenhagen so much.
Night fall over in Amsterdam.
