PACKING LIST

My baggage consist of a 29-inch 4 wheeled luggage, hand-carry duffle bag, 65L Backpack.
I carry on board my backpack and check-in the other 2.
Personally i highly recommend the 65L backpack as that was what i brought along for all my trips.

Important Documents
  • Passport & Photocopied/ Soft copies
  • Student Visa (If you need it)
  • Driver Licence (If you are intending to rent a car and do road-trips)
Not too sure if you need to convert them to the international one.
  • Insurance Policy/ Emergency Contact Info

Clothing
WINTER
I got most of my winter wear from "Winter Time" fair over in Expo.
(Do look out for any deals/ fairs as they may be pretty expensive)
Winter clothing are very bulky and i packed them in Vacuum bags.
And they really save me lots of space. I got mine from Daiso and they have different sizes for it.
(Also, i had 1 set of thermal, 1 fleece, down jacket in my hand-carry so that i can change when i touch down.)

  • 1 Down-jacket
Make sure that it caters to the temperature that you need as it is important.
It will be good if yours comes with a hood.
Do get it a little bigger cause you need space for layering in cold countries.
  • 1 Coat
I got mine in H&M in Finland during a sale. I wore it to other countries that were not as cold as Finland and towards the end of the winter in Finland as well.
  • 2 sets of cashmere thermal wear
They do have it for different temperature as well.
It ranges from $70.00-$120.00 SGD, i got mine at around $80.00/set (-40 degrees)
Alternatively, you can get the ones HEAT-TECH from Uniqlo.
Apparently they are pretty decent and affordable.
  • 4 pairs of winter socks- Cashmere/ Angora
    (2 thin & 2 thick)
  • Winter Boots-
It is very important to have it waterproof.
I got mine from Timberland and it costed me a bomb.
It was close to $200.00 SGD, but i guess it was a good investment.
You have really little options in Singapore, so i guess you can get a simple one here, and buy a good one from your exchange country? There will be so much more choices and it may be cheaper as well!
  • 2 thermal leggings
  • Fleece long sleeve top
I did my research and this is good for layering.
I got mine from Uniqlo at an affordable price as well.
  • 2 pairs of Jeans (Blue & Black)
Wore 1 over and have another one in the luggage.
I bought 2 more during my exchange because it was cheap.
  • 4 Cardigans/ Hoodies/ Long sleeve tops
  • 1 Beanie
  • 1 Scarf (You can probably buy more when you are there)
  • 2 set of Pajamas

SPRING
Actually i only brought minimal amount of summer clothes/ shoes and bought most of it in London.
Do only bring what you need and you can always buy more when you are overseas. They do have sales and it can pretty much be hard to resist. BRING LESS SO THAT YOU CAN BUY MORE!

  • 2 pair of shorts
I brought 1 pair, and bought 2 pairs in London.
  • 3 skirts (Different kinds/ colours)
This can be worn in winter together with leggings.
  • 2 tops
  • Sunglasses
  • 1 pair of slippers
Probably the most important to bring it there when you are in the hostel.
It can be pretty hard to find them in some countries during winter.
But if your exchange country has a PRIMARK, there will not be any problem.
  • Pump/ Shoes
    I bought mine from London
  • Sport shoes & Sports attire
If you think that you will be visiting the gym/ exercising.
But i bought mine over in Finland and it is very affordable as well.
  • Formal Attire
Girls, bring along 1 or 2 LBD for formal events/ parties. (You can never go wrong with it)
  • Bag
    For school/ Out.

Others

  • Toiletries (not more than 100ml)
    (Shampoo, Body wash, Lotion, Toothpaste)
This is very essential when you are travelling and not getting any check-in baggage.
It can be pretty difficult to find it there and pretty expensive to buy travel bottles there.
You can buy the bigger ones when you are in the country.
  • Towels (1 normal size, 1 smaller size)
  • lip balm/ moisturiser
Weather in Winter can be extremely drying so do bring some over or you can get them there.
  •  Nail Clipper/ Scissor
  • Packet Tissues
  • Bedsheets/ Pillow case (2 sets)
I threw mine away at the end of my exchange.
  • Travel adapter (Bring along a few for your hostel)
  • Iphone Pin (If you are using iphone)
  • Portable charger
Very important especially in cold countries cause your battery depletes very fast.
  • Gadgets/ Chargers/ Ear phones
  • 2 Travel Locks
  • Stationaries/ Writing Materials & Calculator
These are pretty expensive in Europe.
  • Medications
I brought along basic ones like Panadol, Charcoal Pills, Flu Med, Lozenges, Plaster....
They can be life saver when you fall sick.
Europe are not like Singapore where there are clinics everywhere.

Optionals
I did not bring any ricer cooker/ Electric flask over, but thankful my roomie brought them.
Personally, i am not a "Rice" kind of person, so the rice cooker is not very important to me.
But the electric flask was very useful especially when i want to make coffee/ milo.
I guess you can choose to bring a mini one there/ purchase 1 there/ buy a small pot just for boiling water which is a cheaper alternative?
  • Travel Pillows(Inflated kind) / Eye mask
But i find it very useful for long hauls flights and train rides.
  • Thermal Flask
It is a good to have as it is a bliss to sip hot drinks in the cold.
  • Sleeping Bag
If you have the intention of crashing over at your friend's place and save on accommodation
  • Travel Money Belt
This will be useful for travelling in Europe or places that are more dangerous.

Food Items

  • Maggie Mee
Even though they are unhealthy, they can be comfort food when you are on exchange.
Bring a mixtures of flavours and brands that you like.
  • Chili/ Tom Yum
If you cannot live without chili, do bring them along.
I brought Tom Yum paste along because i know i cannot live without it.
  • Biscuits
Just in case you are hungry when you settled in and your dorm is empty.
  • Milo/ Instant Coffee/ Tea
I brought like 3 big packets of Milo & 1 packet of Coffee there.
You cannot find all these there, but there are substitutes like cocoa powder/milk/ drip coffee.
  • Local Delicacy Premix
Curry/ Ba Kut Teh, Chili Crab/ Chicken Rice Paste/ Laksa....
Do collaborate with your friends and bring a couple of it so you do not over bring.
They are good for parties where you can cook some food back from home for the locals/ other exchange students.
